Food Pantry
11/16/09

The food pantry is preparing for Thanksgiving. Everyone has their turkey tickets and the office is at work organizing the pick-up times. While this was going on, I worked on some of the monthly clerical work. Because Gettysburg is the main Adams County Pantry under SCCAP, they have to review all the people who come to the Adams County Food Pantries to make sure they aren't getting their food from multiple pantries. For example, someone could be registered to get food at two different pantries, thus getting twice as much food. To prevent this, the Gettysburg Food Pantry cross references the lists of all the people who get food at each pantry. Because Lisa and Michelline were so busy with Thanksgiving, I completed this task. It took a really long time and would probably be a lot easier if they had a computer system. Hopefully, with more funding, they could start something like this to make this monthly chore much more efficient.

and then all of the sudden a Mack truck appears...
Just when I start to think "I've got it all figured out, I know where I'm going, I know what I'm doing". Work has finally started to calm down, I've gained my footing and I'm feeling less stress. (Notice I said less stress not no stress.) I like evryone one I work with, OK so not everyone but the vast majority. Some of whom I couldn't make it thru the day without and others that I enjoy seeing and others that are just a waste of space. The children are wonderful and 99% of the parents are amazing. I'm getting caught up and figuring out how the wonderful world of education works (behind the scenes). Life at home has started to come together. The kids are into the routine and Brent slides in where he's needed to make the evening a little easier on us all. Dinner is on the table by 6 and the kids in bed by 8 and I am, thankfully, asleep by 10 most nights. I've found my ground... finally! Then, seemingly out of no where, the headlights appear in the distance and SMACK! The Mack... (more)

David Sassoon wants a stay of execution for the threatened threshold assessors. Threshold payments are poised to be different in September. It likes that Cambridge Education Associates, who masterminded the process from its start four years ago, will be relegated to a minor role. In the current round, threshold applicants had to complete a complex form in December 2003 demonstrating, with suitable evidence, that they had met eight rigorous standards. Heads had to decide whether standards were met using the application form, the head's own knowledge and that of senior staff. CEA organised the applications in batches of five schools and farmed them out to the assessors. An assessor who wished to keep accreditation for this sort of work had to accept and work on at least one batch. If the head was in the first year of a first headship, the assessors had to visit the school. In other cases, they could check up on headteachers' judgments through distance verification, except...
